Stratus OCT

The Stratus Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) enables our doctors to do a detailed cross-sectional examination of the layers of the retina and optic nerve head without the need for any contact with the eye.

The Stratus OCT is a state of the art imaging system that uses light instead of sound to create an image much like an ultrasound to scan the retina and the optic nerve. Images are then immediately available to our doctors for analysis.

This test facilitates diagnosis and management of retinal diseases such as diabetic retinophathy and glaucoma. For some diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, cystoid macular edema and macular holes in particular, the Stratus OCT may provide more information than is available from a fluorescein angiogram alone.

The Stratus OCT's ability to provide a retinal nerve fiber layer assessment is a powerful tool in early diagnosis and management of glaucoma. The loss of the retinal nerve fiber layer can frequently be detected in glaucoma before visual field loss is measurable or before changes in the optic nerve head can be seen. The test results of the Stratus OCT can significantly enhance the doctor's confidence in determining whether or not a patient has glaucoma and in monitoring patients for progression.
